Why is TM Different?

Transcendental Meditation (TM) is a natural, effortless technique practised for 15–20 minutes twice a day sitting comfortably with your eyes closed. During TM your mind settles down to quieter levels of thought and transcends thought to experience a unique state of restful alertness.

This state of 'restful alertness' is much deeper than that experienced during sleep and generates significant benefits for your health and well-being.

Do I have to clear my mind of thoughts or sit perfectly still?

No. TM is a natural, effortless mental technique. Therefore, TM does not require any effort to clear the mind of thoughts. And nor is it necessary to sit perfectly still. This will be a natural result from experiencing the deep relaxation of TM.

How does TM compare with other forms of meditation?

TM is completely effortless. Other systems generally involve either concentration (which means effort) or contemplation (thinking about something). In TM there is no attempt to control the mind in any way or try to achieve a certain result. During TM the mind naturally settles to deeper and deeper levels of rest while remaining alert.

Once you have learnt TM from one of our qualified instructors you will know how to start the process and the mind will naturally experience deep rest and inner peace.

How do I learn TM?

The first step is to attend a free introductory talk, where you will meet a trained teacher, learn about the benefits of TM and ask any questions you may have about learning the technique. Courses in TM are held regularly and instruction requires just an hour or so each day, over four days. Is there a fee to learn TM?

Yes, there is. The fees vary due to your occupation and reduced rates apply for students, pensioners, families and groups. There is a payment plan option for those who wish to spread payment over a few months.

Why does TM cost money?

TM is a simple, effortless technique taught in a systematic manner, involving 7 key steps plus 4 months of personal follow up. Because of the subtle and profound nature of the technique, qualified teachers spend many hours with each person over 4 months to ensure correct practice and understanding for maximum benefits.

How long do I practice TM each day?

Typically 15-20 minutes twice a day is all that is needed. TM is usually practiced in the morning and late afternoon or early evening. Your TM instructor will advise you concerning the best time for TM.

Where is my nearest TM Centre?

What are the health benefits of TM?

TM is the most researched form of meditation. The benefits range from reduced stress and tension, lower cholesterol, reduced hypertension, improved reaction times, better sleep (reduced insomnia), improvements in diabetes and a host of other benefits.

Only TM will produce this broad array of benefits which are backed up by hundreds of scientific studies conducted throughout the world. There have been more than 600 studies conducted on the Transcendental Meditation program, at more than 250 independent research organisations, in 33 countries throughout the world. Of these studies, more than 350 have been published in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Can it help my specific health issue?

TM may well be able to assist you with a specific health issue and this can be discussed with a qualified TM instructor.

It is important that you consult your doctor or health advisor concerning any specific health issue.

Can TM help me sleep better?

Yes. Scientific research shows that TM helps people with sleep disorders. And it is common for TM teachers to hear from Meditators that they now get a better night sleep.

Are there any side effects from practicing TM?

There are no detrimental side effects from the practice of TM. TM is a completely natural technique. Extensive scientific research shows only positive benefits come from practising TM.

Is TM a religion?

TM is not a religion and requires no change in your beliefs or lifestyle.

How do I know I'm learning the real TM?

The TM technique is offered by centres authorised by the worldwide organisation founded by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

Unfortunately there are some people in Sydney that claim to teach Transcendental Meditation however they are not certified teachers of TM as taught by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

What makes a qualified instructor of TM?

TM teachers undergo a thorough training course, held over many months. TM instructors are also regularly checked and undergo recertification.

Who is Maharishi Mahesh Yogi?

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was the founder of the TM organisation which is now established throughout the world. He passed away in 2008.

Maharishi is credited with reviving the age-old wisdom of the Vedic Tradition that contains the TM technique as its core method for developing the mind and body.
